Pictorialism

This is a self portrait. I took this in my room with a tripod and my Sony point and shoot. I used a longer shutter speed to create this effect. I also lessened the saturation in Photoshop.

These photos were shot using the Sony RX 100VII because my DSLR has been having some uploading difficulties and I didn’t want to risk photos not uploading. Most of these were taken at the San Diego Zoo. I thought that would be the best way to get creatures from “all over the world” without actually traveling much. I had a lot of fun taking these photos, and I’ll continue to take photos of animals. I do want to practice taking portraits of people though.

Photo Story: Individual Photos

Due to technical difficulties, I had to shoot these on my Sony point and shoot camera. I shot these in April 2021. This photo story depicts me putting on lipgloss, something I do everyday. I have no idea why putting on lipgloss makes me feel so happy, but it always has ever since I was a kid. I guess part of the reason is because it makes you look a bit more put together with minimal effort. I have so many different types, but my lipgloss of choice for these photos was Becca’s Liptuitive Glow Gloss.

I try to do my beauty rituals in natural light and near some type of nature, hence the location: by the window surrounded by flowers. This is as important as the lipgloss itself for making me feel happy. Sunlight always rejuvenates me, and flowers bring a sense of aliveness to a room. The whole experience, though simple and arguably rooted in vanity, lifts my spirts. It’s even better when I use something homemade or all natural, like sunflower seed oil or beets.

Natural Light

I took these all on my Nikon DSLR.

Book Reflection

Letters to a Young Artist

Letters to a Young Artist is a series of letters written for an imaginary character named BZ. In actuality, the letters are for the readers. The letters are meant to educate, inspire, and encourage the reader. It touches upon “it” factors, common fears, and means of success for artists of all kinds. I think that’s what makes it an important tool, the fact that the book isn’t tailored to only one type of artist. This is definitely a book I’m going to keep so that I can read specific parts for extra motivation or clarity.

Environmental Portrait

I took these photographs at my house in March 2021. They are images of my 1.5 year old nephew playing. Some of this favorite things to do are play on his alphabet mat, play with his toy truck, and explore plants. I wanted to photograph him in these situations so that my sister can have them for memories. These were taken with my Nikon DSLR.
